Not everyone has either the opportunity or the inclination to quit their job and set off around the world on a motorcycle. That doesn’t mean that you have to forego the adventure so often missing from Adventure Bike ownership.
The original idea behind Big Sky Riders was to create Adventure Motorcycle tours that replicate as closely as possible, how I traveled during the later stages of my round-the-world trip. The Level 4 Raid MedLantic Tour does just that but it is quite niche (best suited to single-cylinder bikes). The majority of Adventure Bike riders own multi-cylinder bikes, more suited to firmer ground and so we developed our UK to Morocco (Level 1) and Atlas Eight (Level 2) tours. Next we added Portugal, having fallen in love with it during our initial 6000km scouting trip. The riding in Portugal is generally more technical than in Morocco (more akin to trail riding in the UK) and so we’ve designated all Portugal tours Level 3. See FAQ’s for an explanation of our riding levels.
Over the years I’ve taken numerous riders with no previous dirt road experience across 5000m+ Himalayan passes, through meltwater and mud, across rivers and landslides. Having shared their joy at their accomplishments, I decided to create a series of tours for Adventure Bike riders with incremental riding levels. Riders can gain experience and build confidence through learning and developing new skills whilst enjoying the thrill of a fully supported, overseas Motorcycle Adventure.
We’re not a riding school. Riding tips and advice are there for those that seek it, otherwise we’re all about experiencing the joys of travel and Adventure Motorcycling.
