Adventure motorcycle trail riding & training tour through the glorious Welsh countryside to the Sweet Lamb Lamb Adventure Rally Bike Academy.

Experience the wonder of Wales as we ride from the English border to the Atlantic coast and back.

Using all the legal trails available, our route takes us from Hay-on-Wye to Aberystwyth and back, in a circular route. This adventure motorcycle tour incorporates two days at the world class Sweet Lamb Adventure Rally Bike Academy. (The team behind the KTM Adventure Bike Experience). A day of training is followed by a day of trail riding on their 6500 acre private estate; all on your own adventure bike.

With catering provided by the team that feed the World Rally Championship & the KTM Festival it’s sure to be an experience you’ll never forget.

The goal of the tour is to hone your riding skills and develop new ones whilst having a cracking holiday, meeting new riding buddies and experiencing the beauty of Wales from the best place possible – the seat of your own Adventure bike.

As with all our tours, you’ll be riding your own bike, carrying your own kit and learning how to become self-sufficient.

Riding Level 2 – For those ‘Competent and confident ascending, descending and steering on loose surfaces’ – see our FAQ’s for an explanation of our Riding Levels.

Day 1 – Sunday: Arrive Baskerville Hall, Clyro nr Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire

Built by the Baskerville family in 1839, the name is engraved in literary history thanks to Sherlock Holmes most infamous case – ‘The Hounds of the Baskervilles’. It is said to be set around local legend, but the author Arthur Conan Doyle (a regular visitor of the Baskerville family) is said to have based it in Devon to ‘ward off tourists.’

The tour starts and finishes here and so anyone wanting to bring their bike by van can park it here for the duration of the tour.

Sporting a swimming pool and spa, you might be tempted to arrive earlier rather than later.

Arrive with a FULL TANK OF FUEL – there’s a petrol station a few hundred metres from the entrance

Day 2 – Monday: Baskerville Hall to Sweet Lamb Adventure Rally Bike Academy

112mi / 179km

Today’s mixture of open moorland, forest trails and farm tracks will help you blow out the cobwebs, warm-up you muscle’s and focus the brain ahead of tomorrow’s school day.

Accommodation will be in the Sweet Lamb bunkhouse. Snorer’s will be banished to the cattle shed.

Day 3 – Tuesday: Sweet Lamb Adventure Rally Bike Academy – Rider Training

It’s unlikely that everyone will have the same set of skills and so following an assessment of everyone’s riding by sweet Lamb’s expert team of instructors, we’ll split-up into smaller groups for the days training.

Accommodation will be in the Sweet Lamb bunkhouse.

Day 4 – Wednesday: Sweet Lamb Adventure Rally Bike Academy – Trail Riding

With 6500 private acres at hand, the estate is home to the KTM Adventure Bike Experience, The Hafren Rally (motorcycle) and some of the most memorable stages of Rally GB (cars). It’s an extraordinary place to ride and we’ll spend the day in small groups being shown around by local guides.

At the end of the day we’ll ride the 20mi/32km to our accommodation in Aberystwyth.

Day 5 – Thursday: Aberystwyth to Hay-on-Wye

86mi / 137km

A chance to put your new found riding skills to the test. The day’s a little shorter than day one, but the trails are a tad more challenging than they were on the outbound ride. Master the ‘Portuguese’ trail and you’ll be ready to join us in Portugal 😉.

Following an early(!?) lunch in the market town of Builth Wells, we aim to arrive back at Baskerville Hall with plenty of time to steam clean the grime from your pores in the sauna and regale your tales of triumph and woe over a cold beer before enjoying a final group dinner.

What to Pack

Self-sufficiency is a big part of adventure motorcycling and so, as with all our tours, everyone will carry their own kit.

This encourages everyone to pack light and initiates a lot of discussion within the group.

You’ll be surprised what tips n tricks you’ll pick-up!

Below is a suggested packing list for the Welsh tour. Items in RED are deemed essential. If you choose to spend the week in one set of underwear that’s up to you 😱

Useful Info

Parking is available at Baskerville Hall for the duration of the tour, should you wish to bring your bike by van.

Your bed in the bunkhouse has a mattress but no bedding. BRING A SLEEPING BAG!see What to pack tab

Bike Prep

Nothing spoils a trip quicker than a troublesome motorcycle. Check your bikes next due service date and consider the tour mileage. It’s better to have your bike serviced sooner rather than later.

As with all off-road/dirt road/trail riding activities, tyres play the biggest role in your experience.

To get the best from your week in Wales, we recommend the knobbiest road legal tyres available for your rim sizes.
